For once, I want to know that I matter. That you actually care. I want you to fight for me, or at least for our relationship. Pedophile Killers - For many years pedophilia was a subject too terrible to even be mentioned. It was the crime whose name we dared not speak. Now, in our more open times, we acknowledge its existence, but one of the effects of this has been to terrify us. The pedophile has become the bogeyman of modern times: he is somewhere out there, ready to steal our children, to rape and murder them. Our terror is such that sometimes we imagining we are experiencing an epidemic of pedophilia; thankfully, this is not the case. The number of abductions and murders of children has remained at a stable level for decades. That said, pedophile killers are the ones, out if all the different types of serial murderers, who perhaps strike most fear. There is something particularly inhumane about murderers who rape, torture and kill innocent young children, something that as adults we find especially unbearable. Their crimes are difficult to forget, and their names live on in infamy: John Wayne Gacy, the killer clown from Chicago; Andrei Chikatilo, the cannibal of the Ukraine; Marc Dutroux, the Belgium fulcrum of a pedophile ring, who starved little girls to death.
Gacy was a popular figure in his neighbourhood. He was a building contractor who employed teenage boys and performed part-time as a children’s entertainer. As such, he found it easy to lure teenage boys into his world, and once behind closed doors, turned into a monster, delighting in the torture, rape, and murder of his victims. Chikatilo and Dutroux forcibly abducted young children, but were every bit as ruthless as their American counterpart. Whatever their methods, it is impossible to contemplate the actions of these men without seeing them, in the hierarchy of serial killers, as the lowest of the low.
